CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE is a procedure which uses the same successful techniques as in modern cataract surgery to correct nearsightedness and farsightedness.
This procedure replaces the eye's natural lens with a multi-focal, intra-ocular lens, and provides focusing power at multiple distances - near, intermediate, and far- with less or no dependence upon glasses and bifocals.
Mono-focal lenses are also available, however with these lenses are most useful for distance vision and may still require dependance on reading glasses for close work.
Who should have CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE?
CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE may be an alternative for people who are too nearsighted, too farsighted, or whose corneas are too thin for LASIK.
It is also an option for people who do not wish to be dependent upon traditional or progressive bifocals, and for those who are showing signs (even without symptoms) of developing cataracts.
CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE can also be combined with limbal relaxing incisions to correct astigmatism.
The CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE Procedure
CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE is performed on an outpatient basis and takes only a few minutes. The procedure is quite similar to modern cataract surgery, except that the focus of cataract surgery is to remove the clouded lens, and CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE focuses on reducing a person's dependence upon glasses, bifocals, and contact lenses, regardless of the development of cataracts..
Surgeons make a small incision (less than 3mm) in the outer layer of the eye, through which the eye's natural lens is removed. Using ultrasonic vibrations, the lens is broken into small pieces, and then gently suctioned out of the eye through the micro-incision.
Then a foldable intra-ocular lens is inserted through the incision, unfolded, and placed into permanent position. The incision is so small that it seals itself and no stitches are required. This proceedure is the same for both mono-focul and multi-focal lenses.
Recovery time is different for every patient, but most report a return to normal activity within a day or two. CLEAR LENS EXCHANGE is performed on the other eye about two weeks after the first procedure.
